Toll-Free Number Porting
This article outlines the process for migrating phone numbers to Plum Voice's carrier.
What is number porting?
Number porting is the process of moving your existing phone number from one service provider to another without changing the number itself. This means you can keep your familiar local phone numbers even when you switch to Plum Voice's services. Port requests must be submitted separately for Toll-Free and Local numbers. This guide covers the process for Toll-Free Number Porting.
What is a Letter of Authorization (LoA)?
When you want to move your toll-free numbers (TFNs) numbers to Plum Voice, we need to verify that you are the rightful owner of those numbers. This is done using a Letter of Authorization (LoA) form. Think of it as a verification document for your phone numbers.
How to Port Your Numbers to Plum Voice
Obtain and Complete the LoA Form: The current account holder of the TFN needs to fill out the TFN-LOA form below.
Submit the Form to Plum Voice: Once completed, send the form to Plum Voice via our support portal. Explicit access is needed to raise a request through our service desk. If you need access to the service desk, email [email protected].
Telecom Provider Review: Plum Voice will submit the form to your current telecom provider (also known as the "losing carrier"). They will review the information and either approve or deny the request.
Scheduling the Transfer: If approved, Plum Voice will coordinate with the winning carrier to find a convenient time for the transfer. We'll oversee the process to ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption to your service.
Timeline
The entire porting process typically takes 1-2 weeks.
Potential Delays
The most common reason for delays is a mismatch in the information provided on the LoA form. To avoid delays:
Ensure the person filling out the form is the registered account holder.
Double-check that all details on the form match the information on your telecom invoice.
