Local Number Porting

This guide explains how to migrate your existing local numbers to Plum Voice's carrier.

What is number porting?

Number porting is the process of moving your existing phone number from one service provider to another without changing the number itself. This means you can keep your familiar local phone numbers even when you switch to Plum Voice's services. Port requests must be submitted separately for Toll-Free and Local numbers. This guide covers the process for Local Number Porting.

What's a Letter of Authorization (LoA)?

When you want to move your Direct Inward Dialing (DID) numbers to a new provider like Plum Voice, we need to confirm you're the rightful owner. We do this using a Letter of Authorization (LoA) form. It's essentially a verification document for your phone numbers.

The Porting Process

  1. Obtain and Complete the LoA Form: The current account holder of the DID needs to fill out the Bandwidth_Standard_Porting_LOA form below.

  2. Submit the Form to Plum Voice: Once completed, send the form to Plum Voice via our support portal. Explicit access is needed to raise a request through our service desk. If you need access to the service desk, email [email protected].

  3. Telecom Provider Review: Plum Voice will submit the form to your current telecom provider (also called the "losing carrier"). They'll review the information and either approve or deny the request.

  4. Schedule the Transfer: If your request is approved, Plum Voice will work with our carrier to find a convenient time to transfer your service. We'll oversee the process to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption.

How Long Does It Take?

The entire porting process typically takes about 1-2 weeks.

Why Are There Delays?

Most delays happen because of a mismatch in the information on the LoA form. To avoid this, make sure:

  • The person filling out the form is the registered account holder.

  • All the details on the form match what’s on your current telecom invoice.
