Audio Manager

The Audio Manager allows users to view and manage the audio components of their Fuse applications.


Each language used in a Fuse application has its own language tab in the Audio manager. The name of the language automatically populates the tab title, e.g. English (U.S.A).

1. Default Language

Users set the default language when creating a new application. The default language cannot be deleted.

2. Add a Language

To add an additional language(s) to a Fuse application, click on the button next to the language tab. This generates a pop-up window with a drop-down menu. Select the desired language from the list provided.

This creates a new tab for that language. Fuse automatically copies the prompts from the default language to the new language. There is no need to construct a new call-flow for each language.

Use the Language ( ) module to allow end-users to select their preferred language on a call. Adding a new language in the audio manager will automatically update the available language options in the Language ( ) module.

3. Delete a Language

To delete a language from a Fuse application, position the cursor over the language tab; a small gear ( ) icon appears in the upper right-hand corner of the tab. Clicking on the gear ( ) icon gives users the option to delete a language from their application.

It is not possible to delete the default language.

Note: Deleting a language permanently removes all of the prompts and pre-recorded audio for that language.

Download ZIP

Click the button to download a ZIP file that contains audio files of all the audio files for that application.

Upload ZIP

Click the button to upload a ZIP file that contains audio files of all the audio files for that application.

Users can update one or more audio files for a specific language using the Upload ZIP feature. Note: When changing audio files, Fuse only overwrites the audio files in the ZIP file; it does not overwrite all the files for that language. For example, if an application has 10 English prompts with pre-recorded audio and a user wants to update two of the prompts, they can record new prompts, name them properly, and upload them in a ZIP file. Fuse will overwrite the audio files for those two prompts, but not the other 8 in the application. Each additional language must be updated separately.

Export CSV

Click the button to download a CSV file that contains the filename and prompt text for each prompt in the application. Exported CSV files contain information for one language at a time. If users want a CSV file for each language in their application they must download each one individually.

Prompt Table

The prompt table has four columns: Type, Phrase, Alert, and Action.

  • 1. Type: Indicates whether the prompt was generated by the user or automatically by Fuse.
  • 2. Phrase: Displays the text for each prompt in the call-flow. System-added prompts can be edited directly in the prompt table. User-added prompts must be edited in the Application Editor.
  • 3. Alerts: Displays alerts when users alter prompt text directly in the prompt table.
    • Undo ( ) : When users edit prompt text in the prompt table, a roll-back arrow ( )displays in the Alerts column. Hovering over the icon displays the default prompt text in the pop-up display. Clicking on the icon restores the default text, deleting any changes.
    • Mute ( ) : Deleting all of the text from a prompt in the prompt table mutes that prompt in the call-flow.
  • 4. Actions ( ) :
    • Upload ( ) : This option allows users to upload pre-recorded audio for a prompt. Clicking on the icon in the Actions column opens a file navigation window enabling users to select an audio file from a local drive to upload to Fuse.
    • Download ( ) : Click this button to download a copy of the pre-recorded audio file for that prompt.
    • Play/Pause ( ) : When a prompt has an associated pre-recorded audio file, clicking this button plays or pauses the that file.
    • Delete ( ) : Deletes the pre-recorded audio file.

Audio Formats

The following links provide users with detailed information about the types of audio files and compression compatible with Fuse.

Plum recommends using the free Audacity application to record audio. Audacity is free and easy to use, but it also has in-depth tools and plugins for more advanced audio manipulation.

Supported Audio Formats

When deciding on the audio format for an application, keep in mind that the Fuse engine automatically runs the files through a compression µ-law algorithm. This downsamples all files to 8-bit, 8kHz.

There are three audio formats for development that are always recommended:

  • 8 kHz, 16-bit, linear PCM WAV
  • 8 kHz, 8-bit, µ-law WAV
  • 32 kbps, 16khz, MP3 (Note: Anything larger is unnecessary. Poorly recorded MP3 files might not work with Fuse.)

Important Note: All audio files must be recorded in mono, not stereo.
